Outlook Password Popups

Ever since I installed Connect for Outlook 3.2, now my Outlook 2007 repeatedly asks for the user name and password for all of my e-mail accounts. I have tried everything that I can find on the subject.  Including uninstalling Connect, Creating a new mail profile.  In the last 3 days, four other consultants I now have identified the exact same problem on either their computer or a client's computer.
Is it possible Connect for Outlook has been recently updated that includes a new bug?  Has anyone run into the problem and figured out to fix it.

This sounds very much like a problem that surfaced before having to do with the installer wiping out a registry key.  I remember at least two threads.

If you are comfortable with the registry, check to see what is in this key: 

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

Click Start and then Run.  Enter regedit and then click OK.  Navigate down to the key above to see if that is the problem. 


Thanks for your suggestions.  I have attached a screen shot of the registry key you mentioned.  However, I don't know what these keys should be.  Also you e-mail mentioned two threads, but it appears you included one thread.

I am hardly a registry expert, but that does not look right.  If you have a System Restore point shortly before you installed, you might try restoring your PC and then taking a look at that key again to see what it contains.

I had the same problem with 3.x.  Once I confirmed that the problem was the registry, I became an instant "expert" on exporting and importing registry keys.  With trepidation, I exported that key.  Installed 3.2 and then restored the key.  I used this as my bible - a nice, not-too-technical how-to:

Hi Harry,

Thanks for your help.  I think I finally have it fixed.  With your suggestions and finding the other message thread, I fixed the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

1)  Create new Windows User Account.
2)  Start RegEdit.
3)  Go to above key.  Export the key to a .Reg file that you can easily find when logged in as your normal user account.  For me I saved to C:\ .
4)  Logout of new User Account.
5)  Login back to normal User Account.
6)  Start RegEdit
7)  Import .Reg File
8)  Reboot PC
9)  Restart MS Outlook
10)  Click on Send & Receive.  Enter and Save Password as requested for each e-mail account.
11)  The next time, I logged in, it didn't ask for the passwords anymore!  :smileyhappy:

The Outlook Password problem occurs due lo network logon settings with server. We can resolve Outlook keeps asking for password from control panel. Open Control Panel and click on Mail dialog box. Now go to show profiles and select your profile. Move to your Email account settings and then change network logon settings. Select the Anonymous login option from drop down menu. Finally click on OK and restart outlook. It will not prompt for password further. Read full details at (.
