Connect for Outlook and Task Record Types

According to SFDC Support Task Record Types is not compatible with Connect for Outlook.  Does anyone have any further insite on this?  For example is this limitation documented some place?  Does anyone have a work around?

I need help in the same area.  Our expanded use of Cases demands that we start using record types.  What I've seen in my testing is that Outlook connector completely bypasses record types and there's no going back.
