Developer mode: don't see the split screen

I enabled the developer mode and can code visualforce pages but i do not get the split screen that hsows my code and the resulting screen. All I see is the code. Am i missing something?

You can view the split screen when you edit the page outside Setup. So let's say your page is called "HelloWorld" and you are on the NA1 instance. If you enter this in the URL:

 

 https://na1.salesforce.com/apex/HelloWorld

 

You should be able to edit the page and view the results at the same time.
