Working Pagination Example

Where can I find a working example of pagination with a standard controller extension?  I am getting this error "Invalid variant 'parent': value 'Account'" and cannot find any documentation on why I am getting this problem.

 

The developer guide example "Pagination with a List Controller" provides hardly any information on the subject.

I believe if you pass an Id in the url you will get this type of error.

 

Without id if you try then the pagination works fine.
