Have you populated the custom web address field in the site detail on Salesforce?
Yes - I did. Custom web address is subdomain.domain.com.
When I launch subdomain.domain.com now it display "Thanks for your response" it's not exactly taking me to the site page but to mysite.na1.force.com. Expecting to go mysite.na1.force.com/site_home
Further, I didnt do this step mentioned in the guide
"Create CNAME records with your registrar to point your top-level domain and your subdomains to your Force.com domain"
What I did is, created a sub domain and setup auto forward rule to mysite.na1.force.com.
it's not working..
That may well be the issue - as you are fowarding rather than using a cname redirect they are considered separate domain names. I've used the cname mechanism a few times - our website http://www.brightgen.com is set up that way and the URLs appear as we expect.
I still didnt get this done.
Now I created cname: test2
it points to : mysite.qa.cs3.force.com
My site page, custom web address is test2.mycompany.com
when i launch test2.mycompany.com, it takes me to SFDC login screen as https://cs3.salesforce.com
any idea, thanks for your response.
What happens if you open mysite.qa.cs3.force.com directly - does that work? I wouldn't expect to get the login page even if there was a problem with the site redirection.

Ah yes - fallen for this a few times myself.
