hi,

 

you can set the rights to read/create/update/delete in the profiles.

 

setup -> user management -> profiles

 

not sure if this feature is available in all editions...

I would recommend you to set u roles before you set up profiles and then assign the profiles to them.It kind of makes he business process look neat.
