Creating a Lookup Relationship

Can you please explain how I can create a field in the Contact Details page called Account Type that will be able to display the content of Account Type from the Account Details record.

I'm pretty sure I did this by creating a new field in Contact that was a formula and then I had the value for the formula pull from Account.  Since I was trying to pull the value from a lookup my formula had to use a case ex.

CASE(Account.Type,
"Competitor", "Competitor",
"Consultant", "Consultant",
"Customer", "Customer",
"Internal", "Internal",
"Press", "Press",
"Prospect", "Prospect",
"Strategic Alliance", "Strategic Alliance",
"Vendor", "Vendor",
"None" )

The downside is that now you have code that needs to be updated if/when you change the values in your pick list.

Hope it helps.

Perfect. Your response totally opened the way. Thanks

You have no idea what kind of headache you just saved me!!!  I am so glad I found this post.  We have a lot of picklists to enforce data integrity but I had no idea how to translate them from one object to another.  Thank you...thank you....thank you!:smileyvery-happy:

I've gained similar value from others so if feels good to be able to give back.
