Can't install Force IDE: No repository found

Hi, I'm trying to do an Eclipse installation for the latest Force IDE from scratch following the directions on this page: http://wiki.developerforce.com/index.php/Force.com_IDE_Installation_for_Eclipse_3.4.x

 

Eclipse installed fine, but when I go to install the Force IDE package, I get this unrecoverable error:

 

"An error occurred while collecting items to be installed
  No repository found containing: org.eclipse.wst.html.ui/osgi.bundle/1.0.400.v200904292008"

 

Any ideas? Thanks.

The Force.com IDE depends on the WST package from Eclipse.  The Eclipse Install Manager in 3.4.2 detects this dependency, searches the repositories under "Available Software" for the plugin, and automatically downloads it (if it's not already installed).  However, if the entry for the repository containing this plugin is corrupt or missing then Eclipse won't be able to satisfy the dependency and the installation will fail.

 

I did a quick search on the error message you encountered and it sounds like a number of Eclipse users are encountering corruption issues with the Eclipse repository configuration in various contexts (not just with the Force.com IDE). This thread on Stack Overflow suggests some possible solutions:

I'm not sure which Eclipse 3.4 repository contains the specific WST plugins required by the Force.com IDE, but I'd guess it's the Ganymede Update Site at http://download.eclipse.org/releases/ganymede/.

 

 

If this doesn't fix it, please answer a few diagnostic questions...

- What OS are you using?

- What build of Eclipse did you download?  Eclipse for Java Developers, or something else?

- Do you use a proxy server?

Exporting the sites and adding the trailing "/" to all URLs that did not have it did the trick.

Glad that fixed your problem, and thanks for posting your question here. Twitter's great for some things but I find it hard to troubleshoot software in 140 chars.

Hi All,

I am very much new to Java and Force.com, I am using Eclipse ver 3.4.2. I had successfully downloaded Force.com Ide through the steps which is in http://wiki.developerforce.com/index.php/Force.com_IDE_Installation_for_Eclipse_3.4.x

this address.

But I cannot see Force.com IDE in Eclipse "Open Perspective" window. Please let me know what I can do so that I get the Force.com IDE in this windows.

The solution on above mentioned site is "Add the explicit path to the JRE in the shortcut you use to launch Eclipse. " But I need detail steps.

Please help.

I had followed instruction given on the link by u. But yet problem is still there.

 

No repository found at http://www.adnsandbox.com/tools/ide/install
  Error reading update site http://www.adnsandbox.com/tools/ide/install.
  Connection reset

 I had add "/" at end as well while updating XML file.

 

Can you suggest anything on this.

 

OS:-  XP SP3

Eclipse:- 3.4.2

Same here.

 

I exported the sites, edited them by adding a '/' at the end and imported them back.

 

Also I removed the configuration/.settings/org.eclipse.equinox.p2.*.prefs file.

 

Still it seems non friendly.

Hello,

 

In your eclipse go to Window-->Prefrances-->General-->Network Connections

 

Kindly check you are connected to internet & your development got varified on "salesforce site"

A stupid mistake from my end made me suffer this entire day. Somehow I forgot to update the proxy settings under Network Configuration. Same as what you mentioned.

I cannot open the Force.com perspective as well. I'm running Eclipse 3.4.2 with the latest Force.com IDE plugin installed (version 18.0)

I also found the solution "Add the explicit path to the JRE in the shortcut you use to launch Eclipse" but I'm not sure how to do that. Could someone please post specific steps to accomplish this.

I am experiencing the same issue as the previous user. I have tried the solutions posted on Force.com, but without any luck. Does anyone have an idea how to solve the problem? Thanks!

Try downloading Eclipse classic Standard/SDK and update to salesforce plugin with http://media.developerforce.com/force-ide/eclipse42. It worked for me. Once you updated with the force.com plugin, you can later update the eclipse sdk to the latest version if needed.

Update java into latest verion and and go the bin folder of JRE which would probably in c if you are running windows. Copy the path of the bin folder, open windows environment variables from system properties. Under system variables, select path and and replace the existing path of jdk and lauch eclipse. It should probably work.
