Alert triggered when product(s) are chosen in an oppty.

Need to confirm that alerts cannot currently be triggered by selection of specific products on an oppty., and if so, does any one have any work arounds or suggestions?

You can create a workflow rule that is based on the "Has Line Items" field which is set to TRUE when products are added to an Opportunity.  However, if you're trying to alert when only certain products are chosen, then this wouldn't work.

Update: there is apparently new workflow functionality for Opportunity Products relative to Opportunity  however having trouble getting them to fire off of Product Code and Oppty Stage.

I'm sure I missing something obvious however does anyone know the key?

We are having the same issue. We want to trigger a workflow when an opportunity reaches a certain stage and if there are certain products on the opportunity. Has anyone found a resolution to this issue?
