Email in activity history from workflow

Is it possible from a workflow to send and automated email (via alerts) but have it also show up in activity history - similar to manually sending email from activity history.
We need to audit emails - even if automatically generated

I have the same problem/question. Anyone have a solution for this?
I too have a similar request. Our workflow sends 2 emails out 2 hours apart, and we need to be able to track this, just as if they had been sent manually. I understand you can create a completed task, which would show the email had been sent, but doesn't allow you to track how many times it has been opened, etc.

Anyone got any ideas?

i'm new to all this but I know workflow emails aren't trackable - just workflow tasks.
