Associate contact detail to a case using email to case

Hi,

We need some help on creating case with associated contact detail.

The New emailAgent uses the Partner API classes to create the new case. But it creates the cases with description and subject only.

Can we associate contact detail (using the from field "from" the email) using Partner API for given case? Or is there any other alternative.

Email2Case will do this automatically if the 'From' Address matches an existing Contact email address.

We have many customers who send us emails, but their addresses are not part of the account record.

What is my best bet for capturing the email address somewhere in Salesforce? Ideally we could pipe this to a custom field that we create.

Any tips for a best course of action would be most appreciated.
