Force.com IDE 'Polling server'

I'm trying to create a project and I'm selecting all of my metadata components as initial project conent. However, when I click finish to create the project, the progress bar stalls and stops at "polling server 'server name' for response (23)..."

 

Is there any fix for this? I am operating behind a firewall.

I found that I had tons of email templates in my email metadata folder. I've since removed that from the synch and it has sped up a bit.
