excel connector

Just tried to use excel connector, and I get an error message saying  "oops, cannot find an active worksheet"
 
I have the correct version of office edition 3.0. 
 
why am I getting this error message

I get this if I have no worksheets in the Excel window.  Try inserting a worksheet.
