Have you tried using the Excel Connector?

Hope that helps,

as i understand excel connector, it would intigrate excel data into salesforce for insertion into database fields.  I am merely looking for a tool to manipulate excel data WITHOUT uploading into salesforce fields.

Not exactly sure what you're looking for, but have you looked into Connect for Office?  You can import reports into Excel and then manipulate it from there.  There's a built in function to refresh the imported reports as well.  Unlike Excel Connector, there's no feedback into Salesforce.

There's a couple of solutions in the AppExchange. Try SuperCell from 2FootPutt. Request the Plus version (works with Excel). Each SF org is entitled to one free license of the Plus version. Website link: http://www.2footputt.com

Use the following link for SuperCell with Excel (Plus version):

The Plus version can be evaluated on a trial basis for 15 days with no obligation or you may apply for a free license.
