Excel Connector - allowing safe partner access via partner portal to perform "mass data entry"

Hi there,

 

Does this tool work via the Partner Portal?

 

Is there a way to allow partners access to mass update only part of an object's fields?  i.e. limit the partner's ability to only update a few fields and restrict their ability to change anything else?

 

Looking for a robust solution to allow multiple partners to do "mass data entry"...

 

Any pointers would be welcome.
