Access to the Manager

I have an object where OWD is private, if i want to give access to the manager above me(software engineer) ,No roles are specified... other than sharing rule, how can we achieve?

I'll assume that you have access to the object.  The best way to give your manager access is using the Role Hierarchy.  If you can't do that, then a sharing rule is the only way to share your records with him.  His profile or a permission set can be used to give him access to the object, but unless you give him "View All" permission, he won't be able to see your records.
