How can I autopopulate start and end fields in overridden new event page and have some validation

I have a visualforce page with standard controller as Event. I want to autopopulate start and end fields and add a validation check to it

Please explain as to how you are accessing this visualforce page - as in the flow of action - is it through a custom button /URL
