how can i generate a report on opportunity based on opportunity status?

Hi naga1,

1)Go to the reports tab
2)Click "New Report".
3) Chose "Opportunities" Report Type and click on "create".
4) Keep the selected columns you want to show in report.
5) Then Filter your report according to the status field. (Add the filter of your opportunity status filter)

You can create a simple summary report on Opportunties report type and then group x axis with status field.
