web to case picklists

can i have a drop down box on my web site that populates a variable on the page, then use the hidden field setting (like setting the org ID) to set a text field on the case to the selected picklist value
this is so that if i want to add reasons to the web to case without adding the new picklist value in 2 places (web code and salesforce case field)

Why do you need a hidden field on the website fior the same.Any reasons ??

if i have the standard web to case salesforce generated HTML, then every time they want to add a pick list value, they will need to add it in salesforce and on the web site (double administration)

if instead they have a picklist they create (not from web to case generated HTML), and set a salesforce text field to = the pick list value as a hidden field update, they will only have to edit the pick list on the web site, making administration simpler

Just tested does not seem to work,salesforce is taking the default picklist value if the value is not there in the list while inserting the case.
