You can develop chat application in salesforce."live agent " is a chat application which you can implement.

I just checked the youtube video, is a bit too fast but I have one more question.. can I do it in a way that my fellow students can register from anywhere without been a salesforce customer? also, must anyone accessing the live chat be a customer ?
