What is the difference readonly and editable in field-level security?

I selected both visible and readonly ------Its editable
again i selected visibality only ---it is also editable 
What is the diff b/w  readonly and editable in field-level security?

If you select only "Visible", the field will be editable. If you also select "Read only", then the field will not be editable.

Read Only --> If you enabled this it will only read and you can't make edit.

Visible --> Whether this field is Visible or Not. If you unchecked it you can't access this field.


By Default, System Admin will have a Modify all Data and View All Data permissions at profile level. If you modify the field level security who has the above mentioned access means, The field level security will not obey and the particular user profile still editable.


So make sure at the profile level....!
