Comment syntax for button

I have tried

// comment
/* comment */
<!-- comment -->

Any other ideas what the syntax might be? Or is it not possible at all?

It says we can apply for formula fields, but not sure on buttons

Yeah, /* */ works on formulas, but no luck in buttons. Pretty unfortunate, since they can become quite complicated.

What type of buttons? If its a javascript button you can use javascript commenting...

No unfortunately. It's a detail page link that displays in existing window with sidebar and content URL.

A very old thread but for a Conga Button (which is URL) just start the line with an underscore .. here's a sample
_This+line+chooses+the+email+template+based+on+the+choice+made
Note comments have no blank spaces ... a bit clunky but at least it works
Whether this works for other URL type buttons is anybody's guess
