Displaying customfields of Oppurtunity in Quotes pagelayout

I am trying to display the custom field trackingnumber present in opportunity on my Quotes pagelayout.
I understand there is a formula which i need to use to link the fields from opportunity in Quotes,but i cant get it to work.
Can anybody help me with my problem.

To add the field to the Quotes obejct, create a custom field, formula text type and then link with the field on Opportunity (see screenshots below). Then you can add the field to the necessary page layouts as well. Is this what you were trying to acomplish?

Yes,but the field Tracking Number still doesnt show up in the Quote layout to choose from.

Can you take a screen shot of the layout screen for Quote? Do you have multiple layouts? I was able to add it:
