When any field of a custom object is changed, the last modified date is supposed to change automatically.
Similarly, if an email is being sent, the Last connect date is supposed to auto update

Shashank (Salesforce Developers) There is no standard field called Last Connect Date. If it is a custom field and you are trying to use workflows to update it, I'm afraid it is not possible in Group Edition.
