hi folks,

I want to write a trigger to send an email to contact when a case is created.please help me on this.

You can definitely do this with a Workflow Email Notification not if trigger by setting up the criteria(s). https://help.salesforce.com/apex/HTViewHelpDoc?id=caseteam_setup_email_alerts.htm&language=en
