why cant I connect on first use of force.com

I am using java 8 on force.com ide 42 - and it gives error - not sure why - I have tried with security code and without etc.

Have you entered your salesforce security token while connecting?

You may probably check your org type PROD/sandbox before connecting.

yes tried the token and also used prod - hmm

I am using the latest ecplise 4.5 and followed the directions in the setup - including java 8 and force.com ide 42 - perhaps this is not a good combination

got it - I should be using api version 35 not 36
