Trailheadn 'Automate Maintenance Requests' challenge of 'Apex Specialist' superbadge.

Do we have to add 'Repair' and 'Routine Maintenance' values to the existing Type picklist values on Case object ?

Its not required to add those options in the type picklist values.

If so then how do we satisfy that specific condition? I mena how do we check of what type the closed case is ?

Still you can able to check that condition in your code, only problem is you can’t verify the code behavior by creating record in UI but still you can able to test those scenarios by passing values in your test class. If you want to verify the behavior of the code through UI, then go ahead and add the given picklist options and created a case record and confirm the code behavior.
