Change Record Name to Auto-number

Hi,

I created a custom object and set the record name to text and now I realize that I need to set it to Auto-number. The problem is I cannot change it.
this object is included in my managed package so I cannot delete and recreate.

Is there a way around this?
I'll appreciate any help. Thanks

Then, you should raise a case to salesfroce for changing the data type of the field.

Hello JKC,

I don't think you can delete the Name field as it is a standard field, you can change the type from text to auto number though.
As the manish suggested it will be applied to the new records only.

I know it's an old post, but you can change the data type of the Name field. Only not in FIelds & Relationships but in Details (Edit) of the Custom object :-)
