post data from php to accounts not lead

hi,
i m a new salesforce user. can anyone help me how to insert records from php page to salesforce and also run some select query on the accounts table to check for duplicates.
 
plz plz if some one can send me some sample code i will be greatly thankful
 
also how 2 connect to salesforce.
