Is it possible to use mail merge with Open Office.org as your default reader rather than Microsoft Word?

In hopes of running reports and performing mailmerges, I am running SFDC on Windows XP on my Intel IMac.To avoid the expense of Office, I am running OpenOffice as my default .doc and .xls viewer. Unfortunately I see a number of error messages rather than reports. Any better ideas on how I can run reports, do mail merges, and print docs using my IMac?

Same error msg when doing mail merge:

 

Exception: CMMHost::GenMailMerge:Exception

Object variable or With block variable not set

 

sf outlook edition version: 3.1.0.0

MS office version: 2007

sf office edition: 1.3.2.2 

 

 

Any suggestion?
