Difference between "Matching Criteria" and "Formula equal to True" when creating escalation rule

Hi all, is there any difference in function and behavior between "Matching Criteria" and "Formula equal to True" when creating escalation rule?

Besides, which rule criteria does salesforce use for "matching criteria" in escalation rule? As you know for workflow rule, salesforce allow user to choose among three:

  • When a record is created, or when a record is edited and did not previously meet the rule criteria
  • Only when a record is created
  • Every time a record is created or edited

How about escalation rule?

There no difference as such in terms of functionality.. They both provide an entry point to the workflow or Escalation rule.. Basic difference might be the complexity.. The Matching Criteria is pretty straight forward where in case of Formula you have little flexibility to have some complex calculations .....
