for Opportunity object, 1.We can assign picklist fields values for different record types , except the picklist field——Opportunity Stage . Record types are related to the page layout. we can assign different record type to different page layout for different profiles. 2. But we can assign it(Opportunity Stage) for sales process, you can new a Sales Process to try it. After you create a sales process, when you create a record type ,you have to select a sales process to determine Opportunity Stage's values.

"we can assign different record type to different page layout for different profiles." How is it achieved ?
At first, the stage picklist is filled up with different probability. Then, few for example 4 sales processess are formed, selecting few of the picklist above. Then, Page layouts and Recordtypes are created. Each record type corresponds to one sales process. Then from page layout assignment, each profile for each record type a page layout is assigned. My question now... How does he gets to choose two options to go ahead.... Is it because that 2 record types are visible to him or is it the two profiles that are visible to him
I have one question. I am fully familiar with the sales process and created a record type to attach to a sales process. However I do not see the part to select a sales process to determine Opportunity Stage's values.

And in one Business process can have multiple record type type depend on status field on lead, opportunity and case object
