I've observed the strangest phenomenon in my system. I've got opportunities with several associated opportunity products. The Quantity and/or Sales Price for some, but not all of the opportunity products on an opprtunity are read-only. How can this be???

This phenomenon is rampant through my data. It doesn't seem to be dependant upon the associated product, though. The Quantity and Sales Price fields are locked for the "Bat" opportunity product on one opportunity, but editable on another opportunity.

Any suggestions as to how I got into this sorry state or how I might get out? Thanks!

I would like to build a mail-merge template incorporating custom fields for Opportunity Products. Is this supported? If not, any hints on whether it will be supported soon? Thanks.

We're planning to develop an integration between our system and salesforce.com that will be wildly popular, creating the pleasant burden of a lot of repetitive deployment and configuration for a lot of salesforce.com customers. That's the plan.

We'd like to automate that deployment and configuration as much as possible, to make it as easy, reliable and repeatable as possible. Can you offer any suggestions or warnings with respect to either deployment/configuration strategies or even the approach we take to implementing our integration?

For example, sforce controls can be created via the sforce API, but then someone has to manually define web integration links them and add them to page layouts.

It looks like, for each salesforce.com customer, someone is going to have to manually manage a whole lot of setup data: web integration links, page layouts, views, custom fields, custom object setup, reports, workflow rules, opportunity alerts, assignment rules for leads and cases, contact roles for opportunities, etc.

Any thoughts on how we can avoid burdening our customers with a 167-step setup guide? Besides hiring an implementation team to do all 167 steps manually for each of the droves of customers we'll be implementing?

Thanks in advance for any advice on the subject.

I'm trying to create web links through the Partner API, and I would like to add those links to page layouts. Is this possible through the API?

I'm trying to create an external "wizard" that builds integration points between Salesforce and our external application.

Thanks,
David Dollar
I sort of fell into the position of being the database administrator.  I know html, but that's it.  I don't even know where to start for customization of SalesForce, though I think VisualBasics is worth learning.  Any suggestions for a complete newbie?  What version of VB do I need to know, who do I call, where do I start?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My developer edition account has begun to sport a logo at the top stating "Subscribe Now! 23 days remaining". This is a little unnerving (I don't want the account to disappear) ... but clicking on it produces an internal server error. Any idea what this is or who I should contact about it?

Thanks,
Scot
